 Professional
artist with over 12 years of entrepreneurial experience,
Denise
J. Bonaimo is living the dream with a career of designing
and
creating jewelry and teaching workshops in sunny San
Diego, California.
Bonaimo
specializes in creativity. She sees art everywhere. There is a
prolific, constant expansion
of her jewelry lines and other creative endeavors.
Denise's
studio is one of 37 artist studios in Spanish Village Art Center,
the
largest
community of independently juried regional artists in San Diego. She
became a juried member of Spanish Village Art Center member over 7 years ago.
In 2006 she was
finally granted the lease to Studio
Fourteen. She has transformed the 70 year old tower, with its
circular floor plan and
15 foot
ceilings into a serene space filled with good energy and a beautiful
gallery
to showcase her jewelry and photography.
With a
strong desire to share her knowledge with people of all ages
and
spark their need to express themselves through art, Denise
offers
several
jewelry classes (wErkshops)
at Studio Fourteen and off site locations as well.
Denise got
her first taste of jewelry design when she was 9 years old. Her mom,
Felicia,
got her started creating beaded bracelets for Sassy
Stuff,
a home
based jewelry business. Art was always a source
of great enjoyment for her and
having a
creative mother and a supportive family played a
hugely instrumental role in her
deciding
to pursue a
career in the arts.
As
a student at Moore College of Art and Design
( Philadelphia,
PA),
Rowan
University
(Glassboro,
NJ),
University of
Northumbria
(Newcastle,
UK),
and GIA
(Gemological Institute of America, NY/CA) this native
Brooklyn/Jersey girl’s
natural talent was nurtured and honed with a variety
of art,
design, art history, diamond grading and metalsmithing courses.
She also
had the privilege of apprenticing to Philadelphia
metalsmith,
Anthony
DeRienzi.
