Kids Polymer Clay Bead Making and Stringing
Learn to make colorful patterned beads with polymer
clay (jelly roll, flower, marbleizing). We will bake our beads in the oven to harden. Then,
using the bead design board, we will create a beautiful necklace
using our handmade beads and accents of glass, ceramic and
colorful acrylic beads. (Includes all materials) (Adults welcome
too.)

Girl Scout -Badge Workshops
Denise is a certified collaborator for Girl Scouts of
America. Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadets will learn various elements of jewelry design and
creation as well as art -to-wear. Work on Try-its, Badges and IP's! Come to the artist's
studio at Spanish Village
Art Center, or invite Denise to your next troop meeting. (Add a one
time $15 fee for each off-site visit.) No experience necessary.
Complete Badge Workshops (by Appointment):

2 hour sessions offered to complete the ART TO WEAR Badge ($30 per student).

2 hour sessions offered to complete the FOLK ARTS Badge ($30 per student).

Bead
Stringing Learn how to
design, string and finish a beaded bracelet. We will
talk about design elements such as color, balance and scale as well
as finishing techniques, make preliminary sketches, use the bead
board to lay out our design and string a bracelet. (1 hour)
(Add $5 if you would like to make a necklace instead)
Basic Polymer Clay
Bead Design
Learn to
work with the colorful polymer based clay that bakes in the
toaster oven. We will learn to marbleize and assemble flower
pattern canes to create a set of beads. (2 hours)

Bead Master Strategies
Beginner
and intermediate beading enthusiasts will delight in this
comprehensive class that focuses on elements of design, creation
and finishing techniques. Explore techniques for creating beaded
necklaces, wrap around bracelets and double strand bracelets.
Learn 3 methods and the benefits of each: soft flex, silk/nylon
string and memory wire. Proper use of jewelry tools will also be
addressed. Bring 5 strands of your favorite beads, round nose
pliers, chain nose and wire cutters. Complete materials kit
including beads available for a $15 fee. Tools available for use
during class.

Wire Coil Beads
Learn to create
dramatic beads out of coiled wire. A few different techniques
will be explored as well as a variety of mixed metal
combinations and varied gauges. Pairs well with wire wrapped
beads, which we will explore as well.

Squiggles, Steps and Spirals
The focus of this class is on the shaping and hammering of wire
links with a touch of wire wrapping beads. Using jewelry pliers
we will shape wire into the Step, Wave, Squiggle and
Spiral components. Then we will hammer the links to harden and
add texture. Twist and bend your way to creating a wire
link, bead and spiral dangle necklace.

Wire Wrapping Beads
with Ease

We will learn the basics
of wire wrapping: (simple loop, wire wrapped loop, wire wrapped
loop with a twist, figure eights, bails) to create a beautiful
wire wrapped bracelet and a pair of earrings.
If
time permits,
we
will also create a handmade clasp, make a few versions of the
spiral and learn to wrap top drilled
beads.

Cold Connections
Forget the
soldering torch, learn how to join layers of metal with clever
flameless alternatives. We will start of with a few technique
based mini- projects involving nuts and bolts, staples, lashing
and rivets and spend the rest of the class creating a final
project utilizing our new skills.

Egyptian Spiral Bracelet
Workshop

Recreate an ancient design with a
contemporary twist. You learn to form and link Egyptian
Spirals (sometimes called Etruscan Coil) interspersed with
wire wrapped beads. Attach your handmade clasp for a timeless
design.
Materials: Bring round nose pliers, chain nose
pliers and wire cutters, a bunch of your favorite beads, 12 feet
of 20g
round wire (dead soft-copper, sterling silver, gold-filled or
craft wire).

Game Piece Jewelry
Take repurposed jewelry to a
new level. Spend the afternoon drilling holes and wire
wrapping game pieces into fantastic jewelry.

If you like, hit the thrift
shops and hunt for old board games before class, or purchase

Knotting Like A Pro

With a little practice of the methods you will learn in this
class you will be able to create beautiful beaded jewelry that
moves with fluidity on silk/nylon thread. Learn the tips and
tricks to mastering your knot placement and various finishing
techniques. Work with bead tip (knot covers) and wire bouillon
and clasp-less strands. We will warm up with a couple of more
simple knotting projects like the double strand 'tin cup'
(floating) necklace. Our ultimate goal is to complete one
continuously knotted necklace of Chinese freshwater pearls. *
Material kits available for $25 on day of class. Feel free to bring
gemstones, pearls and clasps to use in your projects.

ABC's of Tool Stamped Jewelry
Poems, lyrics, prose, affirmations, names: what
do you want to say? Using steel letter tool stamps we will
hammer letters and numbers onto precut copper “blanks” (shapes
of sheet metal), oxidize, file and polish. These stamped shapes
can be used for various jewelry components (ie: earrings or
pendants or bracelet charms). If time permits we will also
create a stamped spiral pendant with heavy gauge square wire.
Think of what you want to say and let’s create it!

Materials: Bring a small utility hammer and a
small steel block, 4" x 4"piece of dead soft
sheet metal (copper, nickel or brass), 1" copper disks (20
gauge), variety of copper washers, half round file, 150 grit
sand paper, 3m pad, masking tape, Sharpie™
marker, screw down hole punch, letter punches.

Wires and Hammers and
Pliers... Oh My: Expanded!
From basic wire
wrapped loops to hammered wire links, wire rings, wire pod
cages and wire coiled beads, this class will round
out any jewelry makers skill set. We will experiment with
different gauges and types wire. Also learn to wire wrap
objects without holes. We will address as many techniques
possible depending on the time frame.
Materials: Please bring round nose pliers, chain nose
pliers and cutters. For the first class bring 15 feet of 22
gauge dead soft round wire in: copper, sterling silver, gold-filled
or craft wire. (The remainder of
the materials will be discussed during the first class.)

Polymer Clay Bead Making Basics for Adults
We will learn to make a variety of lovely colorful

Wire Bead Rings

Fun and funky, or
delicate and petite, we will learn to wire wrap our way to
create several varieties of rings. Using a ring mandrel, we will
wire wrap anything with a hole (beads, stones, found objects) as
well as learn some fun mixed metal wire coil wrapped designs.
Materials:
Bring a bunch of
your favorite beads (or anything with a hole suitable for a
ring), round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, wire cutters,
ring mandrel and
“Wire Coiling Gizmo”. Five feet of each: 18, 20, 22 and 28 gauge
dead soft round wire in: copper, sterling silver, gold-filled
